Salat al-qalaq
Description:
A village buried in oblivion, its very foundations shaken by the mysterious explosion of an unidentified object in 1977. Suddenly, it transforms into a tightly sealed box where each villager lives out their own personal epic: the oppressed rebels demanding freedom, and the tyrannical despots tightening their grip on lives and necks. But the narrative thread only advances to take us back, shedding light on a harsh decade stretching from the June 1967 defeat to the moment of the explosion and the transformation of the two villagers' faces into those of turtles. A single event in the "hamlet" is narrated by eight different characters, their accounts forming a captivating mosaic of the story. At the heart of the novel lies a narrative interrogation of the defeat and the subsequent illusions of sovereignty and victory. Who writes true history: the boot, the rifle, and the iron chains, or the undying cries of rebellion?
